California high schools are in for a larger-than-life surprise over the next few months. DIRECTV and Van Wagner also want to give back to the local community and use the blimp as an educational tool to help children understand how math, science and engineering are applied to air travel.
Elementary, middle, and high school students can look forward to educational exploration classes with the blimp. The massive LED screen will display school names, colors, and slogans above the stadium during the game. The Hood blimp is an A airship. At this time, the Hood blimp is the only blimp in the United States that proudly wears the logo of the sports team it supports. Go Red Sox!
And, this is the first time in their year-history that the Hood blimp has featured a logo other than their own on the side of the airship. It can hold 4 to 6 passengers and is a common fixture at many major sports events across the US. There is a little-known playful rivalry between the blimp crews. Watch the video below.

Local high schools can engage through the dtvblimp Twitter handle for the chance to have the blimp fly over their game and have a DirecTV pep rally prior to the contest. The blimp will be out on the West Coast until March , and will be sharing photos, video and articles about its school activities throughout its time there, and via social media. You can follow the blimp at dtvblimp on Twitter. To submit your school for a blimp exploration opportunity, please email DTVBlimp vanwagner.
